Hi – new to MyDataMerge so have a few questions.

Firstly, when using the autolink option the only way to get my charts (labelled chart-w1, chart-w2, etc.) to autolink as a replace with image is to add the specific names of each chart into the preferences in settings. How come just putting ‘chart’, or ‘chart-‘ or ‘chart-w’ doesn’t register the placeholders?

Secondly, after autolinking the placeholders I am having to go into each placeholder one by one and toggle the ‘Download Image’ option in settings – is there no way to set this as the setting for all replace with image placeholders, rather than having to change them individually? I have upwards of 70 charts in the data merge so it is an inconvenience to go through them like this.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Darcy

we’re already planning a more sophisticated autolink feature with better predefining. But at the moment, the preferences is the onliest location to define image placeholder names (without wildcard *).

Secondly we already have it on the roadmap to save a placeholders setup as preset and allow to bulk apply it to others. But at the moment you’re right, you have to edit each single one.

    Hello,

I also have a question about the image autolink function.

Do I understand correctly that there is NO wildcard autolink and I have to set the appropriate names in the configuration?

Or can I specify “Img” as wildcard in the configuration and “Img1” and “Img-border” will be recognized as image with autolink?

    Best regards,
    Holger

    Hi Holger

    Currently you understand this correctly.

But we have good news for you and Darcy. In the next update (which is probably a major update to 2.0) we have included (beside other new stuff) a better autolink.

Then you can name your placeholder in indesign like this

<<Name>>  Will autolink data column Name as Text replacement

<<@Image>> Will autolink data column Image as an image replacement

With this you can directly tell MyDataMerge how to handle placeholders directly from your indesign document.

Let us know what you think
