    Goodday,

I’m trying to automate some things. So I try to do somethings with automator.

I get this reaction every time: “An internal error appeared. If this error persists, please contact our support.”
Just a very simple script who’s create a empty txt on the desktop to test it the automator out of mydatamerge.

Only when I’m looking to your video and help file I see some differents on the tab automator in the extra section, I’m missing some things. I don’t have the settings wheel and I’m missing number 3 “configure input and variables”???

    See screenshot: https://ibb.co/21Y7h30f

I have version 2.2.5 (latest I think, there are no updates).

    Any idea whats wrong?

    Regards, Martijn

    Hi Martijn

lets go through this step by step.

    1. Do you have a workflow built with automator?
    2. If yes, press button (1) and copy the workflow to the folder that opens up
    3. Then press button (2) and select the workflow in the folder
    4. Then button (3) appears

    Can you confirm this?

    Thank you for clarifying!

We could reproduce the issue – it’s not your fault!
We also found out whats causing this and are currently working on a fix.

    You’ll hear from me asap

    Hi Pat,

I now see option 3 and can also specify variables. Screenshot: https://ibb.co/1YrZ0Cqn
Unfortunately, the same export result: An internal error appeared. If this error persists, please contact our support.

Is option 3 mandatory to use variables? Because I am currently not using variables in the Automator script for testing.

    Hi Martijn

we updated the BETA link (from above) to include some more fixes. Would you be so kind to OVERWRITE the BETA installation and test your file (or better: a copy of it) with the BETA?

Let me know if the issue still appears and if you have added Automator. If yes – where (you can add it as ELEMENT in a setup or on the export section > extras)

    Hi Martijn,

this took a while but the developers found the issue. Its a specific combination that triggered it  and we where only able to see this due to your project.
    Thank you for that.

Please try the updated BETA (link above) again. It should work now as expected.

Important: On Export > Extras > Automator delete the PATH to your workflow once by clicking the “X” Button and re-add it. Theres an issue that gets resolved on readding. After that give it a try.

    Hi Pat,

Yes it works now! Thanks a lot!

    • At the moment, I can automate most of the workflow, including:
    • splitting the source data into separate CSV files,
    • updating the linked data file used by MyDataMerge,
    • and using an Automator workflow after export to rename/move the generated PDF.

The remaining bottleneck is the “Check data & export” button in the Export screen.
Because this button does not appear to be accessible through standard macOS UI automation / accessibility tools, it is difficult to trigger reliably from automation tools such as AppleScript, Automator, or other macOS automation software.

Would it be possible to improve this in one of these ways?

    1. Make the “Check data & export” button accessible through standard macOS Accessibility / UI scripting.
    2. Add a menu command for this action, so it can be triggered from the menu bar.
    3. Add AppleScript support or another automation interface for starting the export.
    4. Add an option to run the export automatically when opening/updating the linked data source.
    5. Add a command line or workflow-friendly export trigger.

My use case is batching many exports with one fixed InDesign/MyDataMerge setup, where only the linked CSV changes for each run. If the export action were accessible to automation, the whole workflow could be fully automated and would save a lot of manual work.

    Thank you, regards. Martijn
