Is there a way to apply bold styling to only a portion of a data entry that is merged?

    So something like this…
Important news about your pricing plan.

The data file would only have it like this…
Important news about your pricing plan.

    Hi Shawn

How can we know which part of the dynamic data should be bold?

Is it always the same phrase?

    Please specify

    Regards

It differs from column to column.

    Hi Shawn

sorry for the late reply. We’re low on staff (vacation + corona) at the moment.

This is not possible directly with MyDataMerge as it can only format the full data coming from your datasource. But you can solve this by using Grep styles in Indesign.

Shortly explained: You add a Grep style that looks for your keyphrases like “Important news” and let InDesign apply a bold styling automatically.
Here’s a good tutorial on grep styles: Tutorial
