    Hi,

    • I tried to link a photoshop .psd in autolink but on exporting I get the “Image ‘P1846-7.psd’ cannot be found!
It cannot be found at the path defined ” message while the path is correct and the image is where it’s supposed to be.
    • I was also wondering if it’s possible to link a docX file with autolink – to insert text without excell messing up with it in the cells ?

thanks in advance for your help !

    Hi Sandra

In the editor inside MyDataMerge, edit the placeholder that should receive PSD file.

There is a preview on the right side with a toggle at the bottom switching from image preview to text (which is the path).

Can you confirm that the image is located at that path?

To your other question: it is not possible to link .doc files.

    Hi Pat :)

I gathered as much for the docs, I was hoping : excell is very unfriendly to word text lol

as for the psd, no it doesn’t preview the image but the path is correct and my psd file is there, but it doesn’t seem to find it. I just tested it with only one file.

    🙏

    Hi there

Is the path included in your datasource? Or did you set the path in MyDataMerge and your datasource Contains only the file name?

Could you change the entry to a e.g. JPG file and create a page file at the same location. Does it work with the jpg?

thanks ! I can work with that.

Can I come back to my other puzzle : the text with format that gets all smashed up in excel, I’m guessing I can’t incorporate the format in your GREP instructions ?

Formatting cannot be kept. Formatting must be applied within InDesign.

You can Format the placeholder though but all content applied will receive that style.

You can add grep styles within InDesign to format specific words in another style. But complex Formatting won’t  be possible from Excel.

Regarding your other issue: there must be a glich in the path when only filename is in database… can’t explain it in any other way

Any chance you would know of a twisted way to keep the italics ? I tried many and so far… :(

Can you Show me an example of the text that you want to insert and how it should be formatted?

The italic can be done with the following GREP Style within InDesign (not in MyDataMerge). Here is a tutorial from Peter Kahrel.

    https://www.typefi.com/resources/formatting-unformattable-indesign/#:~:text=Define%20GREP%20styles%20in%20InDesign&text=In%20the%20paragraph%20style’s%20Paragraph,the%20regular%20expression%20.

It is important that in front of your italic text there is a <i> and behind there is a </i> for the grep style to work.

With this method you can also style other text like the .
Apply these styles to the paragraph the placeholder is located in.

I’m back :) perfect, exactly what I was unsuccessfully trying to achieve. My grep command was placing tags around each word separately lol thanks a million for the article, it’s great ! 🙏
