    Hi Pat,

I have the problem that I cannot export a QR code smaller than 80 px for the print version.
Is there a solution in the meantime? (My software is up to date)

    Regards
    Sabine

    Hi Sabine,

i splitted the topic into a new thread as it is a different question.

QR-Codes have a minimum size to be scanned by devices e.g. smart phones. This is approximately 2 cm or 0,8 inch which is around 80px for 72dpi documents.
    Check this article.

We included this limit into the checks of the frame sizes. If you right click the rulers in InDesign and change to Pixel (px) as unit, then the frames height and width for the QR-Code must be equal or greater than 80px.

It is not possible to change or overide this check. Please let me know your usecase.

    Regards
    Pat

    Hi Sabine

i don’t know what could have been gone wrong while writing (or saving) the post.
There’s nothing in here and there wasn’t (i checked the logs for your posts)

    :(

I am very sorry. You have to write it again.

You can also send it to support [at] toolboxcode.com

    ok, then again. ;-)
I know that qr codes need a minimum size. In indesign the qr code placeholder is 25 x 25 mm (and we printed them several times). my datamerge does not accept that. But if I change to px in indesign, then 80 px are 28 mm. That is definitely too big for the business card.

I will try to upload the screenshots again.

    Hi there,

i will submit a ticket to the developers to create an option to set the minimum size of the QR-Code in px in the preferences.
Unfortunately this will take some time to develop, test and publish.

In the meantime, here is a workaround that should do it:

    • Make your QR-Code 80×80 px in the layout
    • Create a new Object format in the layout andgive it an appropriate name (e.g. “QR-Code smaller”)
    • In the “size and position” options of the object format select height + width the desired pixels e.g. 70 x 70 (its important to set both to the same value to keep a square)
    • In MyDataMerge > edit the QR-Code Placeholder, select the styling option (Brush icon) and select the newly created object format
    • Test it! If it comes to export there might pop up a warning that you have applied a style with no dynamics (ignore that)

If the qr code changes its position during the size adjustment you can adjust the position option inside the object format so the QR-Code is placed at the correct spot (maybe you have to play a little with that).

    Why this should work:

The size of the frame is checked at the beginning of the export but the object format is applied during the export process. So the size will be changed after the check.

    Please note:

You should – in any case – check the results before passing the data to the printer.

    Hi Sabine

I tested the workaround with a simple example and it worked. Are you sure you have done it exactly as described?

We are currently working on an update which includes an improvement that should fix this issue.
