I am trying to create 207 png images from illustrator files.  I have created the INDD file as well as the excel file.  I can get the merge to work, but MDM is not bringing the images in based on the art size – it is keeping the bounding box which is not what I selected on my last import.  How can I get this to merge correctly?  I have loaded all of the files to this dropbox folder – https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/kgcw41a8pq8c3dwumzs0x/h?rlkey=zxfxny9v4qqv324ikb2wagi9q&dl=0

    Hi there,

Please follow “Placing vector files (Adobe Illustrator .ai for example) and changing the crop” in this article:
    Replace with image

    Regards

    Pat

Note: Crop Settings of frames in InDesign are not stored in InDesign documents but in the app itself. So if you changed these settings meanwhile this might be the explanation why it doesn’t work now.

That is still not working for me.  I am still getting the image brought in at the crop instead of the bounding box.

We did it exactly like in the linked article. And PNGs come out fine. See above (record 3).
Please make sure that you selected the right option in the import dialog like in the article mentioned.

I did a screen record to show you the steps I am taking.  I am still getting the image coming in at crop instead of bounding box.  https://www.dropbox.com/s/ddl8fchfhumdpcs/Screen%20Recording%202023-10-11%20at%209.38.16%E2%80%AFAM.mov?dl=0

    Thank you, Daniel

Please help me check a theory.

After following the article open the document again and check the crop settings (import dialog). Are they still the settings you need or resetted to those before?

It isn’t consistent.  Sometimes I open it and it defaults back to crop and sometimes it goes to bounding box. I tried to run it again a few times and each time I am getting the bounding box on the export.

Is it possible to get one indesign file from you with the merge run on bounding box so I can get this project finished up while we figure out why it isn’t working for me?

    Hi Daniel

this won’t help you as the import options are APP bound, not document bound. It seems like an InDesign bug, which version are you running?

    Thank you

I didn’t find any mention of this issue in the official bug radar.

But its clear that this isn’t a MyDataMerge issue. MyDataMerge takes the current setting in InDesign. If that changes (randomly?), this is unfortunately out of our scope.

We have 18.4 and 18.5 running. In both we don’t have that issue.

(Just curious, did you do a restart of macOS without having the checkbox checked in the shutdown dialog? This clears app caches).

    Regards,

    Pat
