I’m getting this message when I attempt my first merge.

An internal error appeared. Please try to open the layout file in Adobe InDesign® directly and check if that works. If this error persists, please contact our support.
[Error code 404004]

I’ve verified the file works fine, in fact I can run a direct merge within InDesign without any issues. I’ve confirmed all placeholders are set, I’ve also removed any existing data sources within the file itself, but seems I can’t get past this hurdle.

Please advise.

Hi Michael

Thanks for getting in touch.

First of all check if you have the newest version if MyDataMerge (go to Menu > Check for updates)

Second do a complete restart of your system (without checking “reopen windows/applications”)

Try to open the document in InDesign and keep it open before you drop it in MyDataMerge.

If that doesn’t work please reproduce the issue and right after the error pops up go to menu > help > send feedback. Paste your name from the forum here in the comments field and make sure the checkbox is ticked. This way we’ll receive error logs and check these out.

Additionally in both cases please paste content of MyDataMerge menu > help > diagnostics here

Thank you for providing info.

We just checked the logs and the issue we found is that it looks like you’re using Adobe Cloud fonts that aren’t loaded fast enough when the document opens.
Please try to download the fonts and use them offline and confirm if this solves the issue. We then will check if we can implement a solution in one of the next updates.

Regards,
Pat
