    Hello all!

I own a small grocery store in London.

We have a team of 2-3 people who need to be able to quickly create price cards to sit in front of each product on the shelf.

I have a template in indesign setup.

Just wondering whether this product would be of help for me or whether it’s overkill and I could just use excel + indesign + data merge?

Ideally I want my staff to be able to put into excel columns:

Name of Producer —- Name of Product — Price — Vegan — Organic — Gluten Free

Then something spit out labels that I design.  Ideally I don’t want them to have any control over the design of the label.. (I want all of them to look exactly the same – except of course for the actual content).

It needs to be user friendly as my team have never used indesign before.

Wondering whether this app might bypass the need to fiddle in indesign and make sure the design stays the same with auto-resizing etc?  Or whether it’s just overkill.

    Appreciate any assistance!

    Hi James

This sounds just like a perfekt usecase for MyDataMerge.

Having a layout template and an excel file and a MyDataMerge project set up, all you have to do is change the excel file to your needs, open the project and export.

This will produce e.g. one PDF with all price tags you then can print.

What especially makes MyDataMerge interesting is its power to handle different cases. E.g. in excel the value for vegan is yes or no, then MyDataMerge can handle this by showing or hiding the specific label completely.

Or enlarging the price so it’s as big as the tag allows it to be.

Your employees don’t have to use Indesign at all. It just has to be on the same machine so MyDataMerge can control it and do the work for you.

We should have a closer look on your different usecases, but for now – this sounds just like perfect for you.

    Please ignore this question.

I’ve just downloaded the trial, this thing is amazing!

    Quick question:

It always detects 40 entries/records even if there are only 5/10/15.  This causes errors at the end (unless you limit the lines).

Is there a way to get it to detect the right number of entries/records?

    Thanks all!

    Hi James

40 records is the maximum for the demo. Still, detection should work correct but there’s one thing you need to know. Empty cells in Excel sometimes only appear empty. I’f there’s only one space in a cell then the cell and the line will be counted as record.

Try to select the “empty” lines in Excel and right click/remove cells.

OR copy existing lines to a new Excel file to have a clean start over.

    Then try again.
