2020-12-11 at 4:30 pm #15426PatStaffIts one way of doing it. You can either have multiple instances of the same page – OR multiple instances of a set of pages OR multiple instances of a group of items to unlock this option.

2020-12-11 at 4:54 pm #15427John MacLulichMemberI notice that in your latest package, the output that is generated contains an extra digit after the first $ sign. I cannot see where that is coming from.

I sent you another zip containing a project and InDesign file going down to<b> 0,25 seconds per record. So round about 4-5 Minutes for 1000 records. (we just exported 1000 records in 4 Minutes, 38 seconds)</b>
I must be doing something wrong. I used your second package and exported to PDF and it took 8m and 29s to export only 250 records.
Is exporting to IDD faster than to PDF?
2020-12-11 at 6:14 pm #15429John MacLulichMemberI’ve tried a range of options, now – exporting to IDD or to PDF; in batches of 50 records or 100 records; rebooting IDD; rebooting MDM – and the best I have achieved is 300 records in 11mins. And I frequently got a “timeout” error, communicating with IDD.
I simply cannot get anywhere near your speed of 4-5 minutes for the whole 1000 records.
And it’s not like I am on a slow Mac, either: almost new MacBook Pro.
My problem is that I have got 29 of these “projects” to complete in the next 36hrs. All the same IDD file – just different Data files. By my count, even if I can get it to run without glitching, it will take me 22hrs non-stop. And then I need to combine the multiple PDF files for each Project back to a single PDF file of 1000pp, for printing.
Perhaps MDM is not the software to accomplish this, after all?
2020-12-11 at 6:30 pm #15430PatStaffHi John,
I assume this is a environment issue. We can run your project wit data file for 1000 records on even older machines.
First confusing thing: your project shows you export to InDesign so we optimized your project on that. Now you say you need PdFs so i need to ask again: Whats the final goal:
PDFs? Printing on own printer? Please try: Save on Harddisk of your machine, not any subfolder of Desktop nor external drive. It is a known issues on macOS side to slow things dow .
Whats the speed of the export when you use OUR submitted file without any change to it just saving like mentioned above?

2020-12-11 at 6:40 pm #15431John MacLulichMemberFinal output is print. So PDF is preferred. Single file even better. I was sure I hadn’t even tried export to IDD, so I am surprised what I sent in the package had those settings.
I am running your file, as supplied, now, to see what speed I achieve when writing to the local Documents folder. It seems to be approx 35s per batch of 50 records, which equates to about 10-12 mins for 1,000 records – and that is creating 20 IDD files, that I would then have to open and export to PDF. It is certainly faster writing to the internal HDD.
2020-12-11 at 6:44 pm #15432John MacLulichMemberPDFs to send to our Fiery RIP is the objective – to be imposed on the RIP. We could even strip out the entire background and only create PDFs of the variable data fields if that would be faster. We could then re-combine master and variable PDFs on the RIP. The resultant PDFs should be smaller, too.

2020-12-11 at 6:48 pm #15434John MacLulichMemberI’ve been at this for the last 5hrs – and it is almost dawn here, now. 4:47am in Sydney, Australia !
I would really to find a solution for the morning shift to keep going !
2020-12-11 at 6:49 pm #15435John MacLulichMemberI’m still stumped by that extra digit after the first “$” symbol.
2020-12-11 at 6:51 pm #15436John MacLulichMemberThe file has just finished and is making the IDD book file. Total time 14mins 59secs
2020-12-11 at 6:55 pm #15437John MacLulichMemberExport IDD book to PDF is averaging 1 page per second – so roughly another 15 minutes.
2020-12-11 at 7:03 pm #15438PatStaffIm on it and will check on how to speed up things and identify the extra digit.
Not to make any promises – if its an InDesign issue with your environment you will not get any InDesign tool nor script doing this faster.Official MyDataMerge Team
