MyDataMerge 2.2.2 (11998)
Adobe InDesign 2025 (20.0.1.32)
Microsoft Excel (16.95)
OSX (13.7.1)
iMac21,1

It keeps saying …

Microsoft® Excel® is not running!

But it is running and fails to work.

Hope you can help me soon.

Regards
Rob

Hi Rob,

First of all try restart your Mac with the checkbox not ticked in the shutdown dialog.
If that doesn’t work, do the following:
Open MyDataMerge Menu > Presets and click the button “Automation assistant” in the lower left.
Any issue there?

I’ve set your post to private cause you should never mention your mail in public.

Im referring to that macOS Shutdown dialog where the checkbox says “Open all windows on restart” (or something like that – free translated from german)
Do NOT check that (keep it unchecked) and restart.

If that doesn’t work follow the other instruction (again)

Which macOS are you using? Version? (click the Apple Icon > About this mac)

<p style=”font-weight: 400;”>Hello Pat / Team,

<p style=”font-weight: 400;”>

<p style=”font-weight: 400;”>I restarted with the box unticked.

<p style=”font-weight: 400;”>

<p style=”font-weight: 400;”>Ran the automation assistant.

<p style=”font-weight: 400;”>

<p style=”font-weight: 400;”>Still say “Microsoft Excel is not running”

I have also checked in mac settings under automation and mydatamerge is there with Indesign and Microsoft excel are permitted to automate.

Did this behaviour start randomly or after you updated somthing like macOS or Excel?

Try the following:

1. Go to system prefences > privacy.
2. Find “Automation” in the list and click it.
3. Find “MyDataMerge” in the list and click it.
4. Check both Excel and InDesign.

Restart MyDataMerge.

Have the toggles been switched off? If so, another restart might help.
Also try doing the automation assistant again.

If that again does not help there might be an issue within the macOS.

Do you have multiple instances of Excel or InDesign installed? That sometimes causes macOS Databases to get corrupt cause it doesn’t then know which version to address.

We’re sending a request to macOS to access Excel and InDesign.

This works by default beginning from 10.4 up to 15.0 (current version of macOS). If this method returns false (not allowed) then the issue is on macOS side not on ours.

It might help to deinstall and reinstall Excel hopefully to fix macOS LaunchServices.
If not there are more advanced tools like terminal commands to rebuild the LaunchServices in macOS.

Hello Pat,

This is proving very frustrating, I have done the following but it still will not work with Excel.

1. Installed latest OSX Update – 15.3.2
2. Removed indesign 2024 so only 2025 is installed.
3. Uninstalled Excel and reinstalled it.
4. Ensured automation for mydatamerge / excel / indesign 2025.
5. Ensured full disk access for mydatamerge / excel / indesign 2025.
6. Rebuilt launch services database using OnyX

I think that’s everything … what now ???

Please help … I’m running out of time to do a job for a client …

Thanks in advance

Rob
